About TattoosAI

TattoosAI is an AI tattoo generator. You describe the tattoo you want, pick a style, and it draws you four designs to take to an artist. It has been running since September 2022 and holds 930,000+ public designs.

How it works

You write a description — a compass with mountains, fine line, on the forearm — and choose one of 19 styles. That gets turned into a prompt for an image-generation model, which returns four variations in about twenty seconds. Nothing is copied from an existing tattoo or from another artist's portfolio; each image is generated for that request.

The result is a reference, not a stencil. It is something to hand an artist so the conversation starts from a picture instead of a paragraph. An artist still has to adapt it to your body, your skin and how the design will age — which is work no generator does.

You can try it without paying. Free accounts get four generations, which is one full set of designs, and no card is required to see what the output looks like.

What you can browse without generating anything

Every public design stays on the site, organised so you can arrive with a vague idea and leave with a specific one.

  • Tattoo ideas by meaning — concepts from animals and mythology to single meaningful words, each with its symbolism explained.
  • Nineteen tattoo styles — realistic, blackwork, japanese, fine line and the rest, each with its own collection.
  • Placement hubs — forearm, sleeve, ribs, spine and more — what a body part actually suits.
  • Ten free tools — pain chart, cost calculator, size chart, stencil maker and others. No account needed.

The biggest style collections are realistic (199,000+), sketch (125,000+) and minimalist (93,000+).

Who runs it

TattoosAI is run by Nick Berns from New Zealand. It is a small independent product, not a marketplace and not a studio — there are no artists on staff and nothing here is a booking. If you want work done, take the design to a tattooist you trust.

Common questions

Is TattoosAI free?

You get four generations free, which is one full set of four designs, without entering a card. Beyond that it is paid. Every tool under /tools is free and unlimited, and browsing the design library costs nothing.

Can I take an AI design straight to a tattoo artist?

Yes, and that is what it is for — but bring it as a reference, not a stencil. An artist will need to adapt the linework for your body and for how the design ages, which is judgement no generator has.

Do I own the designs I generate?

You are free to use what you generate, including getting it tattooed. Designs are public by default and appear in the browsable library; your account settings include a switch to make new generations private instead.

Are the designs copied from real tattoos?

No. Each image is generated for your request rather than retrieved from a collection, so it is not lifted from another artist’s portfolio. It is still worth checking with your artist if you want something genuinely unlike anything else.

Who is behind TattoosAI?

Nick Berns, based in New Zealand. It is an independent product rather than a company with a studio attached — there are no artists on staff and nothing on the site is a booking.

How long has it been running?

Since September 2022. The oldest design still in the public library was created on 7 September 2022.
